Professor Just Gjessing died a few years ago. He was a Norwegian who taught geography at the University of Oslo. With a first name pronounced just as you would guess, and a surname pronounced as if it were spelled Guessing, some say it’s too bad he didn’t teach statistics! (Just guessing. Get it?)
Had Dr. Gjessing worked at one particular university in the USA, consider these unusual yet true circumstances : (1) one of Gjessing’s faculty colleagues would have been Professor C. Chance, (2) one of Gjessing’s graduate students would have been Mr. M. Gamble, and (3) Gjessing’s dentist in town might have been Dr. M. H. Luck.
